Music instruction has been a part of our institution for nearly 150 years. The W is the first institution in the state of Mississippi to be accredited by the National Association of the Schools of Music (NASM) in 1935. Our halls have hosted presidents, governors, numerous other world leaders, and countless internationally renowned musicians.
Our alumni are music teachers, professors, music therapists, and independent musicians creating music, educating the next generation of musicians, and helping people all around the world.
The seventh annual international Music by Women Festival will be held March 2-4, 2023 on the campus of the Mississippi University for Women. The festival will feature concerts of new and historic music written by women composers historically as well as in the present day.
