MUW Master Plan

Mississippi University for Women contracted with Architecture South to work with the campus community to develop a physical facilities master plan that relates to other institutional planning efforts. The purpose of the plan is to provide clear direction for campus growth and development over the long term. The first phase of the master planning process involved site analysis, including an inventory and assessment of the existing facilities and parking utilization. The architects met with focus groups of faculty, staff and students to discuss the university’s goals and vision for the future. The second phase of the process included review of the information gathered during the focus group meetings and of data provided by Institutional Research, reconnaissance interviews, and space use analysis. The third phase was a three-day on-campus charrette (April 28-30, 2003) that culminated the four-month information and data-gathering period. Three models were presented to a group of faculty, staff, administrators and students to get feedback and input from the campus community, resulting in the development of a preferred alternative that formed the basis for the final master plan.
