Ambulatory care and health education is the goal of the Campus Health
Center. All students are eligible to use the Health Center. No fee is
charged for routine visits to the Health Center, though there is a nominal
charge for medications, supplies and complete physical exams. The Center,
located on the first floor of Taylor Hall, is administered by the Head of
the Division of Nursing. It is staffed by Nurse Practitioners. The Nurse
Practitioners are master's prepared registered nurses who in their
expanded role are licensed to diagnose and treat many common conditions.
The protocols for treatment are developed in conjunction with the
Mississippi Board of Nursing and a collaborating physician, who is
available at all times for consultation and/or referral. When the Health
Center is closed the back up physicians' clinic, other local clinics or
the emergency room at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle may be
used by students requiring care. Student health insurance may be obtained
through a commercial carrier. Applications and brochures explaining
available coverage may be obtained in the Health Center and the office of
the Comptroller.
