Welcome to the website for Mississippi University for Women. I am glad that you have chosen to explore the wonderful opportunities that we offer, and I know that you will find MUW can be a great fit for you. Founded in 1884 as the first public college for women in America but welcoming men since 1982, MUW gives its students the perfect combination of the elements of tradition with the tools for the future.

For more than a century, MUW has earned national and international recognition for quality programs. This is still true today. Hailed by many as a university that offers a private school education at a public school price, we are proud that MUW has been named the best value among all Southern master's universities by U.S. News & World Report for the second consecutive year. It is the sixth time in nine years that MUW has been ranked a best value or best buy. In addition, MUW was ranked 67 of the top 100 best public colleges in America by Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine.

Boasting one of the most architecturally distinguished campuses in the country, MUW has 23 buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. But these buildings aren't just beautiful; they are functional for today's student too. Dormitories have been renovated into apartment-style residence halls, and academic buildings have been updated to include the latest equipment. The most recent renovation, Parkinson Hall, slated to house the Division of Science and Mathematics, includes completely new, state-of-the-art equipment and labs and a high-tech auditorium. In an effort to continually provide an educational experience that will truly prepare our graduates, the university recently completed a professionally prepared Campus Master Plan that will provide strategic planning for renovation and new construction for the next 20 years.

MUW is on the cutting edge in supplying the skills and resources that the 21st century workplace demands. MUW was the first university in the country to broadcast over a two-way, publicly-switched fiber optic network, and every residence hall, office, and classroom at MUW is connected to the Internet by our fiber optic backbone. At MUW,
we have a personalized approach to education where every student counts. In fact,
our students enjoy an approximate 12:1 student to faculty ratio. Outside the classroom, opportunities for exciting internships abound and are invaluable in job placement and assist in gaining entrance to the nation's more prestigious graduate and professional schools.

Yes, selecting a university is one of the most important decisions of your life. At MUW you will join a family that spans the globe and helps you make those contacts that you can use in your quest for success and fulfillment, not just during the time you spend here as a student, but throughout your life. MUW family - our faculty, staff, students and alumni - will give you our very best. Aren't you worth the best? I think you are.
