Library Instruction and Tours
The John C. Fant Library Instruction program offers both
general introductory orientations and in-depth course
related instruction classes. Tailored to meet the research
needs of a specific course or assignment, classes are taught
by Library faculty. The Library participates in the campus
UN101 orientation program, required of all university
freshmen for credit.
Class topics include:
- Overview of all types of Library
materials and location in Fant Library
- Effective use of Library
materials in developing research topic
- How to develop research
strategies
- Copyright and fair use issues
- How to cite print and electronic
sources
- Scope and use of the Library
online catalog
- Identification and use of
relevant electronic journal indexes
- How to locate print journal
articles in the Library
- Identification and use of
relevant electronic journal indexes
- Effective searching and use of
journal article databases and other online resources
- Locations of Library materials
- Tour and description of Library
facilities
- Discussion of all Library
services, i.e. Interlibrary Loans, Reserves
- Research Guides for subject area
The introduction Research Guide
provides basics for conducting research, identifying,
locating, and using Library sources. For each subject
specific class, a research guide provides information on
research strategies for that topic and includes a list
of subject oriented print and electronic sources
InfoQuest is the Library's Online Library Tour, which
promotes self-instruction and is used as a reference for
topics covered in instruction classes.
Faculty may schedule a general or subject specific class

Preferred Date and Time
Brief description of assignments
Specific Library resources to cover
Faculty will be contacted to confirm date for the class.
