Module 1 - Orientation to Fant Library-Interlibrary Loan

Gail Gunter

Interlibrary Loan is a service provided to MUW and MSMS faculty, staff, students and alumni. To comply with copywrite law, materials that are located in Fant Library cannot be ordered; this includes books, articles and theses/dissertations. However, books or materials not owned by Fant Library, checked out, or misplaced can be ordered through ILL. Students attending MUW through the Itawamba program, or through distance education classes can use ILL to obtain needed information, although it is located on the main campus. Normally ILL is a free service, but if there is a charge, it is passed on to the patron. The process takes anywhere from 1-2 weeks; requests are entered into the computer within 24 hours of receipt.

If theses or dissertations are requested and cannot be located, they can be bought by the patron from University Microfilm either in book or microform format. These are ordered and paid for by the patron.

Requests can be submitted by filling out forms available at the circulation desk or through e-mail to ggunter@muw.edu. Books that are ordered can usually be kept for one month and in most cases can be renewed one time. Articles are for the patron to keep.

When interlibrary loans are received, the library patron will be notified through e-mail or by telephone. If material is not picked up in two weeks, it will be returned to the lending library. Interlibrary loans can be picked up whenever the library is open. They will be located behind the circulation desk on wooden book trucks.
