ACCESS SERVICES
Interlibrary Loans
Interlibrary loan is a free service provided to MUW and MSMS
faculty, staff, students and alumni. Requests for materials
not located in Fant Library may be requested through e-mail
(ggunter@muw.edu) or filling
out a request form in the library. Materials, such as books,
journal articles, theses or dissertations, may be ordered.
Normally ILL is a free service, but if there is a charge, it
is passed on to the patron. Information is ordered within 24
hours of receiving the request.
If theses or dissertations are not available through
interlibrary loan, they can be purchased by the patron from
University Microfilm either in book or microform format. Ms.
Gunter will provide a telephone number to the patron who
wishes to purchase the material.
When material is received, Ms. Gunter will notify the patron
by either e-mail or telephone and it is their responsibility
to come to the library and retrieve it. Articles that are
received become the property of the patron that requested
them, books that have been ordered have a date due written
on a band and must be returned to the library on or before
that date, in some cases books can be renewed if necessary.
Circulation
The circulation desk is located to the left of the front
doors upon entering Fant Library. New or returning students
need to come to Fant Library to have new barcodes placed on
the back of their current I.D. cards. This should be done
early in the semester; a new barcode is necessary to check
out materials from Fant Library or MSU Library where
students have reciprocal borrowing privileges with an MUW
I.D.
Faculty members place books and articles on reserve; these
can be retrieved at the circulation desk. Most materials are
placed on reserve to insure the use by all students. A
notebook is kept with lists containing all reserves, these
lists are alphabetized by the faculty members last name.
Photocopying machines are available for copying materials,
change is available at the circulation desk as well as
special change makers attached to photocopiers.
Circulating books are located on the second floor of Fant
Library. All students and faculty are limited to a total of
ten books. For undergraduate students the check-out time is
two weeks, graduate students have a three week check-out
period, and faculty have 90 days. Fines are $.25 per day per
book and must be paid when books are returned. Books can be
renewed, but must be brought into the library and cannot be
renewed over the phone. If a book is lost, the cost of the
book is $40.00 plus whatever fine has accumulated.
Therefore, it is important to notify the library when
material is lost, so the fine can be stopped. Faculty and
staff do not have fines accessed, but are responsible for
the cost of any lost materials
