| DEPARTMENT MISSION
The Department provides a broad liberal
arts education for all students. Our courses emphasize
reading, writing, and critical thinking as well as
discovering and using information. Students who are majors
in History, Political Science, Social Science, or Paralegal
Studies should learn to analyze written material with
accuracy and understanding, to write clearly and correctly
about a subject in a major field, to perform scholarly
research on a topic in a major field in a format specific to
the field, and to gain an understanding of a major field as
it connects to the world at large
Campus Location
The Department office in Painter 111
is shared with the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences
and the Department of Languages, Literature, and Philosophy.
Classrooms and most offices for faculty in our Department
are also located in Painter Hall.

Our Department is involved in
community outreach,
such as Dr. Burger (center) meeting with
teachers
who brought their students from Greenwood
High School to get a taste of the MUW experience.
