Mark Bean, Ph.D., Department Chair, Professor
B.S. in Physical Education - Mississippi State University
M.Ed. in Physical Education – University of Louisiana at Monroe
Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology - University of Southern
Mississippi
Dr. Bean had been at MUW
since 1991 and has served as Department Chair since 2005. While
at MUW, he has held other administrative/leadership positions
including Interim Director of Continuing Education, Special
Assistant to the President for Planning and Institutional
Effectiveness and Faculty Senate President.
His professional
experiences include swim coaching with numerous clubs, cardiac
rehabilitation, and Health/Fitness Coordinator with the North
Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, MS.
His primary area of
interest is physical activity epidemiology. He teaches graduate
courses in the M.S. in Health Education Program and
undergraduate Exercise Science courses. He is an ACSM Certified
Program Director. |

Joyce Yates, Ed.D.,

Joyce Yates earned her Ed.D. in
Health and Kinesiology at the Mississippi State
University. Her research is in the area of health
and wellness. She serves as program coordinator of the M
S in Health Education degree program. Dr. Yates also
serves as a consultant for various health and
wellness initiatives.
Dr. Yates teaches Personal and
Community Health (HKH 101), Theories of Health
Behavior (HKH 510), Health Program Planning
and Implementation (HKH 512), Stress Management (HKH
530), Gender Issues in Health (HKH 525),Internship in Health
Education (HKH 598), and Thesis in Health Education
(HKH 599).

Irene Pintado,Ph.

Dr. Pintado has been at MUW since 2007. Her primary
research interests lies in the area of school climate and
bullying and in program evaluation. Other research
interests include injury prevention, wellness across the
lifespan, and social marketing.

Research Methods in Health Education (HKH 511), Introduction
to Epidemiology (HKH 514), Foundations of Health Education (HKH
501), and Health Program Planning and Implementation (HKH

Ellen Jackson, M.S., Instructor
B.S., George Peabody College
M.S., Illinois State University
Ellen Jackson is a member of the teacher education
faculty. She is also a generalist in the field of
Health and Kinesiology and teaches a wide range of
courses.
Ms Jackson teaches Adapted Physical Education (HK
370), Psychology of Exercise and Sport (HK 350),
Camping and Outdoor Ed. (HK 328), Technology in
Exercise and Sport (HK 285), Materials and Methods
of Teaching Physical Education in the Elementary
School (HK 351), and Instructional Methods in

Golda Vandiver, M.S., Instructor

M.S., Mississippi State University
Golda Vandiver teaches a variety of undergraduate
courses in health and kinesiology. Her areas of
interest include health and wellness, and stress
management.
