Textbooks:  Hall, S.J. (1999).  Basic Biomechanics, 3rd edition.  St. Louis: Mosby.

Catalog Description:
This course is an introduction to the biomechanical analysis of human activity and the use of mechanical principles to describe and analyze human movement.

Course Description:
Biomechanics is the field of study concerned with the mechanical analysis of biological systems.  It analyzes the forces that act on the human body and the effects those forces produce.  Biomechanics uses the tools of mechanics, that branch of physics analyzing the action of forces, in the study of anatomical and functional aspects of living organisms.

Course Objectives:
After completing this course the student should be able to:
1. Apply the concepts and principles of mechanics to the study of human motion.
2. Examine methods of motion analysis.
3. Integrate anatomy, physics, and mathematics in the study of human motion.
4. Apply linear and angular kinematics to human motion analysis.
5. Apply linear and angular kinetics to human motion analysis.
6. Apply fluid mechanics to human movement.
7. Critically analyze human movement from a biomechanical perspective.

Course Requirements:
Students are expected to:
1. Attend and participate in all class sessions.
2. Take and pass three scheduled exams (unscheduled quizzes may also be given).
3. Submit all required work.
4. Participate and contribute to all group work.
5. Participate in Special Presentations to class.

Final Grade:
  A:  90-100           D:  60-69                  W:    Withdrawn
  B:  80-89             F:  59 or below         WF:  Withdrawn failing
  C:  70-79             I:  Incomplete           WP:  Withdrawn passing
