Finalists for 2004 were Patsy Prewitt (Greenville-Weston High School), Gail Massey (Bramlett Elementary School, Oxford), Judy Frye (Pascagoula High School), James Reed (Caledonia High School), Debra Jackson (Reeves Elementary School, Long Beach), Sonya Swafford (Nailor Elementary School, Cleveland), and Clara Thornton (Pearl River Central High School, Carriere).

New Members are inducted into the Hall of Master Teachers on the first Friday of December each year. The luncheon ceremony features a guest speaker who has been recognized for contributions to education over a period of years.

All finalists are presented a certificate signed by the President of Mississippi University for Women and mounted on a walnut plaque. Copies of the certificates awarded to inductees are also presented to the superintendents of their school districts.

The annual induction ceremony is held in conjunction with the Institute for First-Year Teachers each year. The Institute was initiated in 1993 to bring beginning teachers into communication with each other and with experienced teachers who can advise, encourage, and nurture. The participants attend sessions on a variety of topics, many of which are led by members of the Hall of Master Teachers.
