SPECTATOR WINS BIG AT STATE CONTEST
Student journalists at Mississippi University for
Women took home three first places in the
Mississippi Press Association’s 2008 college
journalism competition.
Sarah A. Wilson, managing editor of The Spectator,
won first place in the category of Best
Investigative News Package for her story on a brawl
in Hogarth Student Center during the 2007 Labor Day
weekend. A follow-up article on resulting policy
changes took second place in the same category.
Wilson, Editor-in-Chief Casey Parkman, and Senior
Staff Writer Daniel Alexander shared the top prize
for their editorials. Parkman also received first
place for one of his ad designs.
Parkman also received an honorable mention for Best
Front Page, and Wilson took home several other
awards, including second place in General News for
her article on the W's new recruitment strategy.
Since 2004, The Spectator has earned at least one
first place each year in state or regional contests.
In 2007 Spectator editor Laura Tubb tied for first
place in news writing in the Southeast Journalism
Conference's Best in the South contest, which draws
entries from more than 30 colleges and universities
in the region.

great information to be found there). Here's the
