Harriet Stark Gibbons Distinguished
Professor of Journalism at MUW, teaches
Writing for the Media courses and is the
adviser of the campus newspaper, The
Spectator. She also oversees the annual Ray
Furr journalism workshop. A journalist with
almost 20 years of experience, Ms. Henry
worked as a reporter and editor for The
Christian Science Monitor in Boston, The
Moscow Times in Russia, and The Sun Herald
in Biloxi before joining the 'W faculty in
fall 2004. Her articles have also appeared
in The New York Times, The Atlanta
Journal-Constitution, Dance Magazine and Ms.
At The Christian Science Monitor she was
chosen by her peers to receive the
newspaper's award for excellence in editing,
and her reporting has won prizes from the
Mississippi Press Association and the
Associated Press. She received her
undergraduate degree in Russian language and
literature from Georgetown University and a
Master's degree from the Medill School of
journalism at Northwestern University.
