  • Baptist Memorial Health Care-Camp Good Grief was established to help meet the unique grief needs of Mid-South adolescents.  Baptist Trinity created Teen Camp Good Grief, an annual overnight bereavement camp for adolescents 13-16 who have lost a loved one in the last two years.

  • Baptist Memorial Health Care- P.D. Parrot’s Website teaches safety, health and nutrition to children of all ages with tip sheets and fun games.

  • Language classes: The Greater Columbus Learning Center conducts English as a Second Language classes Monday through Thursday at 612 Military Road in Columbus. Classes are free and open to anyone. For more information, call 329-7691.

  • Columbus Arts Council offers the Young People Artist Series which shows 3 performances throughout the school year for children in K-6 grades.  The program is achieved through cooperation with the local schools.

  • Columbus Historic Foundation presents the annual Columbus Pilgrimage, an award-winning event that offers thousands of visitors the chance to tour historic antebellum homes in the South.  Many tour homes feature re-created activities of the 1800’s complete with period costumes, which add even more authenticity to this historic event.  Also, you can visit the historic Friendship Cemetery and see the “Tales of the Crypt,” presented by high school students attending Mississippi School of Math and Science.  In addition to the annual Pilgrimage, the Columbus Historic Foundation has many other historical events throughout the year.

  • Columbus-Lowndes Public Library has many opportunities for children.  The school programs are for K-6th grade.  They offer scheduled tours of the library, special seasonal tours and programs, an annual Storytelling Festival, a Children’s Book Week with National Library Week events, Dial-A-Story (662-329-5313), and Story hour by Mother Goose at the library.  Also, the library has many activities and events during the Summer Reading Programs.

  • Columbus-Lowndes Recreation Authority has many sporting events, park facilities, and summer day camps available for children.

  • Lake Lowndes State Park offers complete recreational facilities for groups.  Located on a beautiful 150-acre lake, the park offers unlimited opportunities for fishing, camping, organized sports, equestrian and nature trials, picnic areas, and playgrounds.

  • Main Street Columbus has an inviting Riverwalk & Trial which follows along the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway.  Also, the annual Market Street Festival is very popular for its entertaining music, food, art, and activities.

  • Plymouth Bluff Environmental Center believes that outdoor education in a convenient and natural setting can be a very effective way to begin or enhance environmental and ecological awareness among all people.  The setting for the Plymouth Bluff Center offers a river, a pond, woodlands, a cypress slough, nature trials, an outdoor teaching facility, and outdoor laboratories.
