  1. To develop an understanding of the breadth of knowledge in a fine or performing art.
  1. Identify works of art, and the choices involved by the artist in creating such works
  1. Communicate ideas about works of art through a vocabulary specific to the area
  1. Understand the methods of creating the particular art form
  1. Comprehend the historical context, and relation to cultural elements of the art form
  1. Distinguish genres, styles, periods, forms and structure of the art form
  1. Think critically about specific pieces (texts and art pieces)
  1. Evaluate the art and the work of the artist

 

 

* Courses include lectures which are accompanied by discipline appropriate audio/visual aids: slides of artwork, videos of theatre performances, audio presentations of music
 
* Students must participate in classroom discussion and critiques of the presented art form
 
* Quizzes and tests are given to evaluate students ability to recall specific artists’ works, knowledge of methods, and historical contexts
 
* Students will attend performance events and/or gallery exhibits sponsored by MUW Fine and Performing Arts Division as assigned.
 
* Courses will include research resulting in a written paper, or in a classroom presentation, or in participation in a hands-on experience in the art form.
