Adirondack Leadership Expeditions

Wilderness Field Instructor

Entry level positions provide assistance to higher level wilderness/field staff to ensure field safety and proper student supervision.  Instructors are responsible for providing direct care and teaching primitive living skills to students.

Instructors work a variety of shifts, the most common being 1 wk on/ 1wk off. Occasionally other schedule options include 2 wks on/ 2 wks off.  Under the direction of a licensed therapist, instructors collaborate to promote healthy relationships and a positive self-image for our students. Two or three instructors lead expeditions with up to 8 students, accounting for 24 hr safety and supervision of groups. Instructors guide students through an experientially based curriculum. By means of primitive living skills, relationship, and guided therapeutic discovery, AEG’s wilderness therapy programs aim to help students uncover maladaptive behaviors and beliefs in order to assist them in creating fulfilling lives.  Our Idaho program has been in operation since 1981, and we are recognized as the leader in outdoor wilderness therapy.  You are asked to complete 24 weeks in the field though internships are available. We accept resumes and hire throughout the year. We are a drug-free and alcohol-free work place.
