What is Marketing? Marketing encompasses a
wide rage of activities that facilitate transactions between
buyers and sellers. The essence of the marketing profession
is identifying customers needs and then guiding
organizations to develop, distribute, price, and promote
products and services. Marketing professionals work in many
areas such as retail establishments, service industries,
financial institutions, insurance agencies, pharmaceutical
companies, consumer product companies, manufacturing, and
non-profit agencies.
A concentration in marketing is designed as a comprehensive
study that provides both a general business background and a
special focus on marketing issues. Career opportunities in
marketing are virtually unlimited because the profession is
critical to the survival of any business. Starting salaries
are competitive with other business majors, and
