Why Choose a Business Degree
from MUW?
Fully-Accredited Undergraduate Program
The
MUW College of Business is accredited by the Association of
Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), which
ensures that the programs it offers adhere to strict
academic standards for excellence. Accreditation enhances a
program's ability to serve students by assuring a focus on
quality. It ensures that a program is participating in an
ongoing effort to provide excellent equipment, software, and
learning resources for students. For more information on the
benefits of graduating from an accredited business program,

Small Class Sizes
The strength of MUW is its commitment to providing excellent
academic programs in an environment that supports the
academic needs of the student. Business classes are small,
allowing faculty to
get to know the students (MUW boasts a 12:1
student-to-faculty ratio). With small classes, students
receive the personal attention that greatly enhances their
learning experiences.
Personalized Advising
Each student is paired with a faculty member for
personalized one-on-one advising. Students are assigned an
advisor who is an expert in the major, and is knowledgeable
about career opportunities in the field. This personalized
advising is designed to help students with academic planning
and/or addressing complicated issues.
Computer Access
Reneau Hall has 2 large computer labs that are used for
classroom instruction and student use. Each lab consist of
24 IBM compatible computers with CD-ROM drives, zip drives,
a CD burner, scanner and laser printer. Both labs have
Internet access for student research in addition to
productivity software which includes Microsoft Office, Corel
WordPerfect Suite, Peachtree Accounting, Visual Basic .NET, SPSS, and various other applications. The labs are open 8:00
a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday except during
limited class times. The College also maintains a
Telecommunications lab used for MIS courses.
Evening and Online Class Offerings
The College offers a variety of day, evening and online
classes. The flexible course schedule is helpful to
individuals who are trying to balance school, work, and family.
Internship Opportunities
The College of Business offers advanced students the opportunity to acquire relevant work
experience in their majors before graduation through its BU
400 course. Internships can provide students with
relevant work experience, allow students to investigate
different organizations and opportunities, and give students
the confidence they need to be successful in their chosen
professions. Internships also increase students’ starting
salaries. Students with internship experience earn an
average of almost nine percent more than their counterparts
according to survey by the National Association of
Colleges and Employers.
MUW students have had outstanding experiences with a variety
of organizations in the local community and throughout the
United States. Internship sites for MUW students have included the
American Red Cross, Kerr-McGee Chemical Corporation, the
IRS, Weyerhaeuser, Wal-Mart, Old Navy, the United Way, Bryan
Foods, the City of Columbus (MS), and Baptist Memorial
Hospital.
Outstanding Faculty
The College of Business has a diverse,
highly qualified faculty that bring insight to the classroom
from many years of experience as consultants, managers, and
practitioners. Faculty members in the College are leaders
in such organizations as the Institute of Management Accountants,
Academy of Marketing Science, and the Marketing Management
Association.
