MUW coaches to help
high school juniors and seniors stand out

In many
parts of the United States parents are
paying big bucks for “college coaches” to
help their high-performing children stand
out on their college applications, according
to Dr. Sandra Jordan, provost and vice
president for academic affairs at
Mississippi University for Women.
However, similar information will be shared
for free with some of the region’s best and
brightest students at a workshop titled
College Aspirations on Thursday, Feb. 7.
Dr. Eric Daffron, director of the Ina E.
Gordy Honors College, said, 25 high school
juniors and seniors with at least
a 24 on the ACT have been invited to
MUW to participate in an all afternoon
workshop on writing a college application
essay and on interviewing skills.

MUW offers dual
enrollment for high school students

Mississippi University for Women offers high
school students the chance to jump start
their college careers by offering dual
credit and dual enrollment. Over 160
students are participating in this program
at MUW this spring.
MUW began offering the program in the early
1990s and has seen a 158% increase in
participants in the last five years.

MUW recognized for
best practice
|

Mississippi University for Women was awarded
$5,000 by the State Institutions of Higher
Learning Board of Trustees for
winning second place in the Best Practices
Program for its entry on “Increasing Advisor
Knowledge and Information Access.”
“I am very pleased that MUW has been
recognized for its advisor program,” said
Dr. Claudia A. Limbert, president. “Our
faculty and staff have worked hard to
enhance advising to benefit our students.”

displayed in Meridian Museum of Art

Four
professors from the Art and Design
Department at Mississippi University for
Women currently have their works on display
at the Meridian Museum of Art.
Assistant Professor Shawn L. Dickey,
Department Chair Robert Gibson, Professor
Thomas Nawrocki, and Assitant Professor and
gallery director Alex Stelioes-Wills each
have works showcased in “Impressions: Work
by Mississippi University for Women Art
Professors.”

Grandson of Gandhi to
speak at MUW
|

Arun
Gandhi, the grandson of legendary spiritual
leader Mohandas K. Gandhi, will address the
Ina E. Gordy Honors College at Mississippi
University for Women on Thursday, February 7
at 6 p.m. The event will take place in the
Nissan Auditorium, located in Parkinson
Hall.
Gandhi was born in apartheid-era South
Africa, and because of confrontations he had
and his desire to fight back, he was sent to
visit his grandfather at the age of 12.
