By joining the Department of Music at The W, you will become a part of a rich history of musical and academic achievement.

We were the first institution in the state of Mississippi to be accredited by the National Association of the Schools of Music (NASM) in 1935.

Our alumni are music teachers, professors, music therapists, and independent musicians creating music, educating the next generation of musicians, and helping people all around the world.

We offer degrees in Music Education (Bachelor of Music), Music Therapy(Bachelor of Music) and Music(Bachelor of Arts) with an emphasis in voice or piano.  Scholarships are available to qualified applicants.

Historic Facility

Dubbed "The Temple of Music," Weenona Poindexter Music Hall (1905) is the preeminent music conservatory in the state of Mississippi.  The music hall completed renovations in November of 2012 to the tune of $14 million. The building features the 250-seat Connie Kossen Auditorium in the center of the building, individual practice rooms, a grand piano practice parlor, and a state-of-the-art audio and video recording suite.

The Department of Music at Mississippi University for Women presents a classical piano recital featuring W music students Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 7:30 pm, in Connie Sills Kossen Auditorium, Poindexter Hall.
