Scholarships for Transfer Students
PTK All Academic Team
Phi Theta Kappa students who are recognized as members of
the PTK All Academic Team can receive this scholarship of full tuition
and a $600 book stipend for two years. In order to apply for this
scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:
Have a
minimum 3.5 overall GPA
Have never
attended a four year institution
Have at least 48 transferable
hours prior to enrolling at MUW
Students
must submit verification of PTK All Academic Team membership along with
their scholarship application. This award cannot be stacked with the
McDevitt or PTK scholarship.
PTK
These two-year
scholarships, in the amount of $7,000, are reserved for Phi
Theta Kappa members. Out-of-state fees are covered if
applicable. In order to apply for this scholarship,
students must meet the following criteria:

Have never
attended a four year institution
Have at least 48 transferable
hours prior to enrolling at MUW
Students must submit

McDevitt Day
MUW offers
a generous scholarship program for students. You have the opportunity to
join us for McDevitt Day on March 27, 2009. MUW provides the opportunity,
during McDevitt Day, to compete for two of our most prestigious transfer
scholarships, such as the McDevitt and University Transfer scholarships.
To
apply for the McDevitt and University Transfer scholarships,
students must be admitted to the university and should submit the
following to the Office of Admissions by a priority deadline of
March 13:

Letter of recommendation from a counselor or Phi Theta Kappa
advisor

One page essay on the following topic:
“What
is your true passion in life and how has it affected you?”

McDevitt
The
McDevitt scholarship is for academically gifted community college
transfer students. The McDevitt is a two-year, full tuition, room
and board, out-of-state fees (if applicable), and a small book
stipend. Three McDevitt scholarships are awarded each year. To be
considered for this scholarship, students must meet the following
criteria and attend McDevitt Day:

Each
participant will be judged on their interview, academic achievement,
leadership ability, and potential contributions to the University.
The McDevitt scholarship can not be stacked with any other
scholarships awarded from the Office of Admissions.
University Transfer
This is
our second most prestigious transfer scholarship for academically
talented students. The average University Transfer award is $5,500 over
a two year period. Out of state fee scholarships are given if
applicable. To be considered for this scholarship, students must meet
the following criteria and attend McDevitt Day:

Each participant will be judged on their interview, academic
achievement, leadership ability, and potential contributions to the

Hearin
The
Hearin Leadership Program at MUW is a rich and academically
challenging leadership program. The Hearin Program prepares students
to become tomorrow's leaders by focusing on scholarship, leadership
development, and community service. To be considered for this
scholarship, students must meet the following criteria and attend
McDevitt Day:

Have never attended a four-year institution

Have at least 48 transferable hours prior to enrolling at MUW
These
two year awards are in the amount range of $1000-$2500 and may be
renewed based on the recipients’ participation in MUW’s Hearin
Leadership Program.

Available Scholarships:
In
addition to the scholarships offered on McDevitt Day, MUW offers
many other scholarships to prospective students. Students must be
admitted to the university and submit the enclosed scholarship
application by a priority deadline of April 1. Read on to learn more

Alumni
Residents of Mississippi whose parents graduated from MUW are
eligible to apply for this renewable scholarship in the amount of
$800 over a two year period. Students must submit a scholarship
application by priority deadline of April 1.
Alumni
Out of State
Out-of-state students whose parents graduate from MUW are eligible
to apply for these scholarships which cover non-resident fees.
Students must submit a scholarship application by priority deadline
of April 1.
Community College Program Awards
Community/Junior college transfer students who are
interested in applying for these awards in the amount of $3,000-$4,500
over a three year period must meet the following criteria to be
eligible:

Have
at least 24 transferable hours prior to enrolling at MUW
Community College Transfer
Community/Junior college transfer students who meet the following
criteria are eligible to apply for these two year awards in the
amount of $2000-$3000:

Meet transfer admissions requirements
• Have a minimum 3.0 overall GPA
• Have never attended a four-year institution
• Have at least 48 transferable hours prior to enrolling at
MUW
Student must submit a scholarship application by priority deadline
of April 1. This scholarship can not be stacked with the Phi Theta
Kappa scholarship.
Foundation:
Alumni
and friends have generously contributed to a number of merit
scholarships that are available to commendable students. Students
must show academic promise, leadership abilities, potential in a
specific area of study, and exemplary qualities to be eligible.
Students must submit a scholarship application by priority deadline
of April 1.
Performance
Students who excel in performing arts are able to receive
scholarships that are available from the departments of Art and
Design and Music and Theatre. Those interested should contact their

Regional
Community/Junior college transfer students who are not Mississippi
residents and meet the following criteria are eligible to apply for
this scholarship, which covers out-of-state tuition:

• Have never attended a four-year institution
• Have at least 48 transferable hours prior to enrolling at
MUW

Most
scholarships and awards are for a period of one academic year (nine
months). However, some at MUW can be renewed for three additional
academic year, or graduation, whichever occurs first. All scholarship
recipients must maintain continuous fulltime enrollment in at least 24
hours per academic year at MUW and maintain a 3.0 or higher MUW
cumulative grade point average each semester. Students may receive more
than one type of scholarship to attend MUW. However, total MUW award
package, including state, federal, institutional, and private funds may
not exceed total cost of attendance. Scholarship awards will be adjusted
should the total amount exceed this cost.
The total amount of institutional scholarships awarded by the university
may not exceed the total cost of tuition, room, board and a book
stipend.
