In addition to the academic and need-based scholarships that are awarded to you during the admissions process, many of the academic programs and departments at The W have separate scholarships that are exclusively for their majors. These scholarships have their own application, deadline, and selection process. If you have any questions about a departmental scholarship you should contact the chair of your academic department.

Art & Design

Art Scholarships

Scholarships are available for incoming students and current students majoring in Art. Applications and information is available on the Art & Design website.


Culinary Arts

Culinary Arts Advisory Board Scholarship

The Culinary Arts Advisory Board Scholarship is awarded to a Culinary Arts major enrolled full time as a freshman or sophomore GPA of 2.5 or above based on high school, transfer, or MUW grades (if applicable) wtih an ACT composite score of 21 or above.

For consideration, applicants should submit the following. The priority deadline is April 1 of each year.

  • MUWAA Scholarship Application
  • Student issued transcript and documentation of ACT score;
  • Student’s complete résumé, including academic achievements, extracurricular activities, and work and volunteer activities;
  • A 250 word essay addressing “why you deserve the scholarship and overall career goals;
  • Two faculty letters of recommendation, addressing the student’s leadership and volunteerism

Southern Grace Scholarship

The Southern Grace Scholarship is awarded to a Culinary Arts major enrolled full time with junior or senior standing, with an Overall 2.75 GPA and a Culinary Arts course GPA of 3.0 or above.

For consideration, applicants should submit the following. The priority deadline is April 1 of each year.

Mary Lou Peyton History Scholarship

Scholarships of up to $10,000 per year for History majors to help with tuition and other education-related expenses. Renewable for up to four years. Details on the Peyton History Scholarships website.

Languages, Literature, & Philosophy

Neill James Memorial Scholarship in Creative Writing

At least 1 scholarship of up to $4000 will be awarded each year to an incoming Freshman Creative Writing student. In order to be eligible for a scholarship, students must submit an 5-25 page sample of their best writing in poetry, fiction, non-fiction, or drama by April 1. Additionally, incoming students are strongly encouraged to complete their application and financial aid applications prior to April 1. Incoming Freshmen must have a minimum composite ACT of 20 or an SAT of 950 to be eligible. More information and the application form can be found at the

Languages, Literature, and Philosophy Departmental Scholarships

Several scholarships are available to students majoring in Languages, Literature, and Philosophy, which are awarded each year to outstanding students in English, Languages, and Creative Writing. These are selected by the faculty of the department and are funded through the MUW Foundation by the generous gifts of alumni and friends of The W. Music

Music Scholarship

All incoming students who wish to major in music are required to perform an audition in front of the music faculty. Prospective students must be admitted to the university prior to the audition date. All students who audition will automatically be considered for a music scholarship. The audition dates listed above are for students who want to major in Music Education, Music Therapy, or Music. Auditions for choral ensembles happen at the beginning of every semester. Details are available on the Department of Music’s website.

Psychology & Family Science

Several scholarships are available to Family Science students. Applications are typically due in March, but can be submitted at any time. Details on the Department of Psychology & Family Science website.


Sciences & Mathematics

Biology Scholarships

There are various biology scholarships offered by the Department of Sciences and Mathematics available to current Biology majors. Most of these scholarships are available to all students (including international students) except those students who are full-ride Centennial Scholars. Amounts awarded are generally in the $500 to $2000 dollar range. The scholarships are awarded at the discretion of the departmental faculty. There are various scholarships offered by the Department of Sciences and Mathematics available to current Chemistry or Physical Sciences with Teacher Certification majors. Most of these scholarships are available to all students (including international students) except those students who are full-ride Centennial Scholars. Theatre

Theatre Scholarships
