Dr. Claudia Limbert called the
meeting to order.
1. As there were no minutes
available from the previous meeting, Dr. Limbert stated
they would be read and approved at the next meeting.
2. Dr. Pat Donat announced
the policy review process currently used was put in
place a while back. It is recommended the review
process be looked at again. Dr. Donat stated she will
head a committee to review this policy and will come
back to the Council with recommendations at a later
date.
3. Nora Miller gave an
update on the budget information stating the 2007 budget
had been entered into Banner. The budget books are on
their way to printer and will be distributed via Cabinet
Members. Nora talked about increased cost levels, salary
increases and budget requests. She requested FY2007
budgets be closely monitored. She discussed the need to
fund the PC replacements plan, furnishings for the Pohl
and Stark buildings, and other auxiliary costs to be
spread over a period of years. Another unexpected cost
is purchasing a new industrial dishwasher for the
cafeteria.
4. Dr. Limbert reported the
searches for the VPIA and VPAA are moving along, and we
are receiving good applicants for the Alumni Relations
director position.
5. Chief Calvin Sellers
said the MUW Police Department will be moving next week
into upstairs Hogarth and out of Eckford Hall. Eckford
Hall is to be remodeled into a new Health Center.
6. Ms. Miller announced that we are
waiting on the approval for construction on Eckford Hall to
begin, and she expects that approval very soon. There are no
bids to date on Poindexter Hall. There seems to be an
absence of bidders in this area for projects. This is true
for other area college campuses. We should be able to secure
a bid by August or September. The Fine Arts Building is
being delayed by MEMA and FEMA at this time. Melanie Freeman
stated she has had inquiries as to where the Woman's Center
for Entrepreneurship and the Student ID Manager will be
housed. Ms. Miller responded they are looking at space in
Reneau Hall for the WCE and space in McDevitt Hall for the
Student ID Manager. Wahnee Sherman wanted to know if
Poindexter was usable at present. She was informed that the
A/C was not working in that building at all.
7. Dave Haffly reported that
Sodexho will implement at MUW and three private colleges in
the Southeast this fall a new program entitled "Body, Mind,
and Soul ‑ Balanced Way of Eating." This program will
promote a healthier way of eating to students, faculty and
staff. Sodexho will make presentations to various campus
constituencies this fall to roll out this program. There
are some opportunities for the Culinary Arts Institute,
Graduate Health Education program, School of Nursing,
Community Living, and Recreation and Fitness to help promote
this healthy approach.
8. Wahnee Sherman said that
Student Services will soon have in place a Central Job
Center for student jobs, including federal, state, and
institutional student workers. Forms will be sent to all
offices for registration of jobs available on campus and
returned to the Center. Students may look at the Center
for work on‑line or hard copy of jobs available without
having to go all over campus. The reviewing and hiring
process will still be in the hands of the individual
offices. This move will make the process easier for
students. Ms. Freeman reminded everyone that if you have a
student worker who is working in two different offices, you
need to coordinate hours, so they will not be working more
than a total of 40 hours. If a student works over 40
hours, the department will have to pay
overtime. Dr. Limbert would like to have something in place
later that collects the number of volunteer hours for
students, faculty and staff in the community. This
information would in turn be provided to the local
community.
9. Dr. Sheila Adams announced
that the School of Nursing has received an advanced training
grant for $35,000.00. Students receiving these monies will
return to work in under served areas.
10. Dr. Limbert noted that the
state is looking at a shortage of elementary teachers. |
