General Updates:
Dr. Bucky Wesley said he is
concluding the Director of Financial Aid search. He has
three good candidates, and he plans to make an offer to
one of the candidates soon. There are 85 Hurricane
Katrina evacuees left in Goen Hall. They will have
housing through December 1, which is when the residence
halls close for the winter holiday break. Dr. Limbert
added that she appreciates the work Chris Holland and
others have done for the evacuees. The second W Day of
the semester is scheduled for today with 22 prospective
students registered.
Dr. Pat Donat noted that the
Retention Council has been meeting. It has been split
into three subcommittees. Dr. Eric Daffron is chairing
the Student Engagement Group, Dr. Donat is chairing the
Transfer Student Group, and Dr. Suzanne Bean is chairing
the Graduate Student Group. Rhonda Thomas, the new
Director of Advising, is doing a lot of outreach work to
make herself familiar to the campus community. An
overview of the Academic Master Plan will be presented
to the campus on October 28 at 2:30 p.m. Commencement
has been set for Saturday, May 6, 2005. The two
ceremonies are scheduled for 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. This
should give people plenty of time to also enjoy Market
Street Festival in downtown Columbus set for the same
day. Dr. Wesley said the student group he has talked to
would like for the Mag Chain Ceremony to be the same day
as commencement or on the Friday night before. They do
not want it the week prior to commencement. He said his
department will encourage more participation this year.
Mary Margaret Roberts reported that
251 people attended last week’s Welty Gala compared to
177 last year. Several major benefactors covered the
cost for 80 Honor’s students to attend. The Foundation
audit is underway. The Foundation Board meeting is set
for next Thursday. The FY06 solicitation period has
begun.
Susan Sobley said Staff Council is
compiling a list of goals for the year, updating the
bylaws, and making changes on the Staff Council web
page. The group is considering putting an anonymous
suggestion box on the web page.
Anika Perkins announced that Mandy Rey has
joined the Division of Institutional Advancement as an
administrative assistant for public affairs and grants. The
fall edition of Visions will be out by mid-November. Her
office is still working on the economic impact study.
Dr. Tom Velek said the Faculty Senate
is working on reconstituting the representation of the group
due to the academic reorganization. The Faculty Senate
awarded money to faculty members for conference travel. He
has received several comments from faculty members about
concerns in the cafeteria. After a discussion, Dr. Limbert
said she has a meeting soon with the Sodexho leadership and
she would check into these matters.
