4/26/04 Administrative Council Meeting Minutes
In attendance: Dr. Sheila Adams, Nora Miller, Dr. Bucky Wesley, Perry Sansing, Patsy McDaniel, Anika Perkins, Dr. Barbara Hunt, Susan Sobley (for Carol Morgan), and Dr. Narem Reddy. Absent: Dr. Claudia Limbert, Scott Rawles, Dr. Mark Bean, Mary Margaret Roberts, and Dana Vaughn. In the absence of Dr. Claudia Limbert, Dr. Sheila Adams called the group to order. The minutes from 4/12/04 were approved. General Updates: Perry Sansing reported that the Staff Salary Classification Committee submitted its report to Dr. Limbert on Friday. The report recommended hiring a consultant. The Administrative Council for Policy Review will consider a policy on Staff Salary Classification after this meeting is adjourned. He said he and several others met last week to work up a budget for the approximately $750,000 safety and security grant that will be funded by Congress. It will include approximately $200,000 for campus lighting. Other items included are new radios that will be compatible with the Columbus Police Department’s radios, a new car, electronic cars that are street legal, and emergency call boxes. Susan Sobley announced that three staff members who are members of Staff Council will graduate this semester. Two of them are leaving MUW for family reasons Nora Miller said the temporary gym will be constructed on the old tennis courts. It should be ready this summer and completely functional this fall. Anika Perkins noted that her office is working on the summer issue of Visions and the new catalog. Both are on schedule. She announced that Chris Jenkins and his wife had their baby this past Saturday. His name is Caleb Nailson Jenkins. Dr. Barbara Hunt said the Faculty Senate met Friday. New officers were elected. They are Dr. Lea Helen Evans of Speech/Language Pathology, President; Dr. Jimena Aracena of Science and Mathematics, Vice President; and Dr. Brian Anderson of Humanities, Secretary. The Faculty Senate voted to present Gena Anthony with the Faculty Senate Award and draft a proclamation honoring both Wanda Ray and Gena Anthony. Wanda has served the university for 41 years, and Gena has been here 27 years. Patsy McDaniel reported that the Winston County Alumni Chapter had a meeting Sunday in Louisville. Approximately 40 alumni were present. The Town & Tower Steering Committee meets Thursday, April 29 at noon. The Delta Alumni Chapter meeting is set for May 7 in Indianola. The Faculty Member of the Year nominees are Dr. Twila Alpe, Dr. James Fitzgerald, Dr. Marty Hatton, Chef Sarah Labensky, and Dr. Dee Larson. Voting will take place this week at the Post Office and in the cafeteria during lunch. Her office is working on births, deaths, weddings, and classnotes for the summer issue of Visions. Dr. Narem Reddy reported on behalf of Dr. Mark Bean that the PIE Council Subcommittee will meet this week and develop guidelines for the IERs and Annual Reports. Dr. Bucky Wesley said his office is working on the student handbook and summer orientation. Approximately 200 yearbooks have been pre-sold, and 500 needed to be sold to make the yearbook self-supporting. The second admissions search piece has been mailed. He said he would like to have a seven percent response rate from the search piece. Enrollment predictors for the fall look good. Acceptance numbers, pre-registration numbers and residence life numbers are all up. Dr. Sheila Adams announced that the Development Link Education Banquet is tonight. Dr. Suzanne Bean will be honored. Take Your Advisor to Lunch is set for this week. The retirement reception honoring Wanda Ray and Gena Anthony is scheduled for April 29. Perry Sansing added that the state legislature is still working on the budget. Both the Senate and the House plans show IHL being cut. |
