March 25, 2004 Minutes

Members of the Council who were present: Patsy McDaniel, Anika Perkins, Nora Miller, Scott Rawles, Mark Bean, Sheila Adams-Presiding, Bucky Wesley.

 

Dr. Adams called the group to order. The only agenda item was:

1.                  Approval of the Spring 2005 academic calendar.

Discussion ensued regarding the number of break days.

1.                  How does this impact on days for food service?

2.                  When is MSMS spring break?

3.                  It seems odd to add two days off in February. Dr. Wesley would prefer to remain open
            February 17 & 18.

It was agreed that this concept would be tabled until the next meeting of the Administrative Council.

 

Anika Perkins - Visions is late. We will add a third Visions for the summer. Exhibit in April, the art of Walter Anderson.

Patsy McDaniel -

1.                  Homecoming is coming.

2.                  Great Chapter meeting in New Orleans on March 14th at Ogden Museum of Art. About 45 people were present.

3.                  4 Chapter meetings scheduled are: March 27 - Richmond, VA, April 3rd - Jackson Metro, April 3rd - Little Rock, AR, May 7th - Sunflower County.

4.                  5 Chapters are looking at dates: Shreveport, LA, Baton Rouge, LA, Lauderdale County, Lowndes County, and DeSoto County.

5.                  4 Chapters are reactivating: Nashville, TN, Columbia, SC, Orlando, FL, and Maryland.

6.                  AAUW Scholarship time. Will be awarded at Awards Day on March 30.

7.                  Cookbook (Southern Grace) has won its first award. The Marketing Award. Will be presented in April. The cookbook has only been out 6 months. It is up for other awards to be announced later.


8.                  Alumni honored in March are: Mary Libby Payne `54 received the Distinguished Jurist Award for the year 2004. Martha Smith Watkins `74 received the Northeast League Coordinator of the Year Award by the United States Tennis Association. Martha lives in Starkville. Mary Westmoreland Webb `97 of Tupelo was recently elected President of the Mississippi Association for Gifted Children. Mary is the gifted education coordinator for Tupelo Public Schools. Vicki Ann Turner Pentcost `79 of Cleveland has been elected 2004 President of the National Association of Junior Auxiliaries.

9.                  Patti Carr Black `55 is writing a book on Eudora Welty. She will be coming to campus for research.

 

Bucky Wesley - Songfest this Friday, Music Fest April 3rd, Marketing is ongoing, no ticket update.

Mark Bean - PIE Council meets Friday.

Sheila Adams - Tonight Linda Burket will speak at 6:00 p.m. in the Nissan Auditorium. Awards Day is next week.

Mary Margaret Roberts - Opening of Orr Annex at 2:00 p.m. Symphony Saturday night. Free to campus and students.

Nora Miller - Martin prebid yesterday. IHL meeting yesterday on research catalog. The goal is to focus on economic development. Senate bill for bond, for IHL looks like down to last minute.
