08/12/03 Administrative Council Meeting Minutes In attendance: Dr. Claudia Limbert, Dr. Sheila Adams, Nora Miller, Perry Sansing, Dr. Mark Bean, Mary Margaret Roberts, Patsy McDaniel, Anika Perkins, Scott Rawles, Dr. Barbara Hunt, Cay Lollar, Carol Morgan, and Terri Heath Absent: Cynthia Hembree Council members agreed to change the meeting dates to the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month at 8:30 a.m. Dr. Claudia Limbert spoke about whether the campus would be interested in developing a Veteran’s Day tradition. Anika volunteered to contact Pam Warnken at the CAFB to discuss it further. Dr. Limbert announced that our new VPSS, Dr. Bucky Wesley, will be here on campus Wednesday and Thursday. He will start officially on September 8. Dr. Mark Bean gave an update on our SACS response. The final draft will be reviewed at 1:00 p. m. today, and it will be sent to the printer on Friday. Scott Rawles mentioned that an annual plan for mail-outs to alums and donors has been initiated. He also announced that we ended the year with a high participation rate for giving. Dr. Limbert expressed great appreciation to the collaboration of N. E. Mississippi Medical Center, the Baptist Memorial Hospital, and the Oktibbeha County Hospital to fund faculty positions for our nursing program. Perry Sansing remarked on the format for the newly established Staff Salary Classification Committee. This committee plans to hold smaller group meetings to obtain feedback on classifications and salary. The committee will also develop a philosophy, set goals, and determine what needs to be accomplished. Dr. Limbert remarked that this process will take a little longer, but it will be more thorough. Carol Morgan said that some staff felt that they were being discouraged from applying for membership on Staff Council. She said a very diverse council has been elected for this new school year. Anika Perkins reported on the progress of the next issue of Visions. She mentioned that Premier Productions will be on campus on September 3 to put together a tape of The W to be shown on the National College Review. The campus will also receive a copy of the tape which can also be used on our website if we choose to do so. Anika mentioned that they have been working on advertising and marketing for recruitment. Dr. Sheila Adams said that Monday would be the first day of classes, and that all division heads have been contacting students in their areas that have not preregistered. Dr. Barbara Hunt stated that the Faculty Senate’s first priority is to complete an update on their constitution. Patsy McDaniel said that the Past President’s Alumni Association will hold a meeting on August 15. MUW alums will be hosting a lunch on that day for returning faculty. On September 4, there will be a chapter meeting for Bolivar, Leflore, Washington, and Sunflower counties. Patsy also commented on several alums that had recently received awards and promotions. Alums are also purchasing items to decorate dorm rooms for our international students. Terri Heath mentioned that move-in day is Wednesday. She also spoke about the IHL Counselor Seminar that will take place on The W campus on September 23. This is an opportunity to promote The W. IHL suggested that MUW to do a "tailgate" party for the event. Mary Margaret Roberts said that Raiser’s Edge Training will take place next week for the Alumni and Development offices. She also spoke about the annual fund letters that will be sent to alums with a different letter going to our younger alums. Development is working with alums to appoint class agents for graduating classes. These alums will work with their own class to enhance giving. Nikki Speer has also been working on scheduling a phonathon with student volunteers. On March 27, 2004, the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra will be on campus due to a large donation by an alum given in honor of his wife. Nora Miller spoke about the construction projects on campus. She mentioned that the debris removal of the H & K building will go out for bid soon, and that contracts on S. Callaway are waiting to be approved. Parkinson is almost completed. Nursing faculty will meet next week to refine drawings for Martin Hall. Notice has been sent to all those that have storage in the warehouse to vacate by 9/15 so that plans to relocate the Physical Plant can begin. An NBC cash dispenser will be put in Hogarth soon. Next week, there will be a seminar about procurement cards at Plymouth Bluff. The meeting adjourned at 9:16 a.m.
