Dr. Limbert opened the meeting with thanks to everyone for helping to make the Inauguration and Welty Weekend a success.

Previous minutes from the past four meetings were corrected and voted for acceptance. Dr. Spearman remarked on how well the IHL College Fair went. The W booth looked great. Dr. Limbert said that the visiting students were interested in The W, and the new fitness center was important to them. Dr. Spearman is checking into having photographs taken of the fitness center to use for recruitment. She did mention that the cable is not hooked up yet. Nora Miller said that Tommy Doughty is following up on that.

Mississippi Valley State won the Halbrook Award this year. This award is based on a percentage of athletes that graduate in a five-year time span. Dr. Spearman felt that the IHL method of calculation for this award should be given to each university every year. She also mentioned that The W softball team came in second in Division II in the country with a 3.59 GPA. The W volleyball team came in second last year with a GPA of 3.62.

Dr. Gail Stephens said that the campus telephone directory has been printed and should be ready to ship. Dr. Stephens and Dr. Hansen have met to discuss the yearbook and are still looking at some ideas for improvement. Dr. Stephens mentioned the International Students' luncheon, and asked everyone to try to attend. Dr. Stephens also spoke about the Golden Triangle Employment Expo on 11/6. The W will be there as an employer, and also as a recruiter.

Dr. Stephens mentioned that housing contracts for residence hall students did go into effect in the Fall 2002.

Dr. Mark Bean said that the Faculty Senate will meet Friday, and he would have feedback on ideas discussed at that time.

Phillip Cockrell told everyone that the student government presidents of four of the eight Mississippi universities will be coming to campus today for a meeting in the Welty Board Room. He mentioned that the Miss Meh Lady Pageant will take place on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. He also informed everyone of SGA's involvement in the Heart Walk on November 3.

Dr. Limbert participated on a panel at the recent MAC conference. It centered on statewide mentoring and leadership for women who wish to move into administrative positions. Dr. Limbert said that Jones College and East Central administrators spoke with her at MAC and asked that The W visit their campuses. Dr. Limbert has recently reviewed MUW web sites and found that some of them are outdated. She asked all to make sure that their web sites had up-to-date information, and that they include photos and shot bios of the staff.

Perry Sansing mentioned that he had recently sent out the schedule for the next VPIA candidate. He asked that any feedback on the four candidates be sent back to him.

Nora Miller mentioned the presentation Larry Jones did at the IHL Board Meeting, in which he pointed out alternative ways to save money on computing systems. IHL has asked for a revision on our recent budget information. Nora also mentioned that a Parking Task Force Committee will meet next week to look at parking issues on campus. A survey about the computer dial-up access will be sent to all faculty and staff. The faculty will collect data from students.

Patsy McDaniel said that the Alumni Board Meeting here on Saturday afternoon went well. More than 60 alums attended. On Saturday, a photographer will be at the gazebo to shoot the front cover of the new cookbook. She also mentioned that she and Dr. Limbert will be attending the Mid-South Chapter meeting in Memphis on Saturday.

Mary Margaret Roberts announced that the Foundation had recently received an estate gift from Esther K. Gunn in the amount of $35,350.96 to be used for scholarships for an Education Division student who plans to teach. The total amount received from sponsors for the inaugural reception was $21,690. As soon as the bills are taken care of, any extra dollars will be allocated to the library. There was a good turnout during Welty Weekend for the Foundation Board Meeting on 10/18.

Dr. Stephens mentioned that David Remy's family had sent a letter asking how money sent to the W Foundation in his memory will be used. Mary Margaret said that she will call them to check on this.

Rose Mary Dill mentioned that the first Directors' Council Meeting has been set up for November 5, at 9:00 a.m.
