Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts in General Studies.
MUW now offers a flexible degree program to help students graduate on
time and with academic preparation to move forward with their careers or
with graduate studies. The following information may help you decide
whether the General Studies program is right for you.

What is the General Studies Program?

MUW's General Studies Program is designed for students who have
started, but not completed an undergraduate degree; or who have started
in one major, but wish to change majors without adding significantly to
their time to completion. The General Studies degree provides students
with basic preparation for many careers and graduate/professional
programs.

Who should enroll in General Studies?
There are several groups of students who will be especially well served
by this program:

1) Non-Traditional students who have completed some college, but
have not earned a college degree;
2) Students whose work or family circumstances have required them
to relocate before completing a degree at another institution (MUW
serves a significant transient population connected with Columbus Air
Force Base and local industry.);
3) Students who changed majors more than once and whose
collection of earned credits do not fulfill a traditional degree;
4) Traditional learners who begin a professional program (such
as nursing or education) and discover (after earning considerable
credits) that the profession is “not for them;” and
5) Students who are making satisfactory progress toward a degree,
but do not possess the GPA required to enter the professional program.

What are the curriculum requirements?

Students in the General Studies program are able to select twelve (12)
semester hours in each of three tracks of study selected from the
following discipline areas: Fine and Performing Arts, Natural Sciences,
Human Sciences, Business, Humanities, Mathematics and Computer
Programming, Health Related Programs, and Pre-Professional Programs.

Are online classes available?
Several of the “tracks” will offer many of the course options online,
making this an attractive and accessible program for working, adult, and
non-traditional students. Students are encouraged to work closely with
General Studies Faculty Coordinator, Dr. Mark Bean, to develop a program
that will ensure expedient completion of the degree AND a program of
study that will help the student realize their educational goals.

Are there any special admissions requirements?
There are no special admissions requirements for General Studies.
However, each student is required to work with the General Studies
Coordinator in order to review curriculum options and facilitate
completion. Through consultation with the Coordinator, the students will
create a road map of their course of study.
